In preparation for the anticipated influx of travelers heading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Finnish developer ADMARES and architecture firm Sigge Architects have announced a partnership to develop 16 temporary floating hotels on the banks of Qatar’s Qetaifan Island North.
Located in close proximity to Lusail International Stadium, which will host the month-long event’s first and last games, the hotels will each house 101 rooms—for a grand total of 1,616 guestrooms.
Measuring 236 feet long and 52 feet wide, the contemporary structures will feature wood paneling and modern white lines. There will also be a restaurant and lounge bar located within each of the four-story units.
Once the World Cup concludes in December 2022, the floating hotels can be relocated to any coastal area that’s at least 13 feet deep.
