Doha: Widam Food Company (Widam) has started online shopping facility and home delivery services for several products, including meat and chicken. The initiative is part of the Company’s efforts to contribute in the country’s collective campaign to fight against the COVID-19 as people have been asked to stay home and safe to contain the spread of the virus.

Widam, which is one of the leading suppliers of meat and livestock products, has recently launched its revamped mobile application (Widam). The bilingual mobile app displays a wide-range of premium products along with their unit prices, which include fresh local beef, Sudani beef, local veal beef, fresh chicken, mince, lamb (Australian and Syrian lambs whole) and many other products such as fresh vegetables like tomato, cucumber, eggplant and capsicum.

“Widam announces adding several basic products to its updated mobile application by partnering with the best local producers,” Widam Food said in a tweet on its official twitter handle. The Company has also posted a promotional video providing other necessary details of the initiative. Through the upgraded advanced version of Widam mobile app (which can be downloaded on all devices run on Android and iOS operating systems), customers can order all the products, including local and import meat products.

All these items can be ordered online, and customers can choose from a given slot (day and time) for delivery as per their convenience. Orders can also be placed through a phone on a toll free number 8000056 The mobile users are required to download the app and register with it through a valid mobile number and resident’s address. Widam charges QR10 per order for delivery, and customers have the option to pay cash at the time of delivery.

Widam (which was formerly known as Qatar Meat and Livestock Company, or Mawashi), has added more fresh products in its list of item that can be purchased online. The company is also working to add more products which could be ordered online in the coming days.

In early last month, Widam signed a partnership agreement with Baladna, the main producer of fresh milk and other dairy products in Qatar. Under the agreement Widam will supply the local market with 500 tonnes of veal meat for the first time in Qatar.

This agreement came in compliance with international best practices which aims at benefiting from all products associated with main production operations. Baladna will supply veal, ageing 100 days on daily basis; whereas, Widam, has agreed to start a new production line for meat, market and distribute it locally, through various point of sales in the country.

Widam has abattoirs in different parts of the country, and recently it announced to execute its Al Shahaniya slaughterhouse project. The project is line with Qatar National Food Security Plans and by extension investment strategy in business opportunities and national and international projects in the meat sector, with view to sustain an uninterrupted availability of related commodities at competitive prices.
