Dr. Adel Abdulaziz Al Sayed, Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation and Advisor to the World Health Organisation, commended Qatar for its significant focus on the health and education sectors. He highlighted how this commitment is reflected in the advanced services and care provided to both citizens and residents.

In a special statement to Qatar News Agency during the closing ceremony of the twenty-fourth edition of the Al Bawasil International Camp for children diagnosed with diabetes, Dr. Al Sayed praised the substantial support extended by the State of Qatar to individuals with diabetes. He emphasized that such support, attention, and care are invaluable and may surpass what is available in many other affluent and developed nations.

Dr. Al Sayed expressed his appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Qatar Diabetes Society, a member of the Qatar Foundation, in creating awareness and educating the community about diabetes and its risks. He acknowledged the society's annual camps as instrumental, especially for individuals with type 1 diabetes, helping them learn to live with the disease as a crucial aspect of treatment. These camps also contribute to developing various skills and engaging in cultural and social activities.

Highlighting the financial challenges associated with managing diabetes, Dr. Al Sayed noted that it often pushes families, individuals, and communities to the brink of poverty.

Expressing satisfaction with Qatar's efforts to provide treatment, support, and preventive measures for diabetes, Dr. Al Sayed lauded the country's exemplary healthcare model. He emphasized the benefits derived from communication and the exchange of experiences through organizing such camps and participation.

Dr. Al Sayed emphasized that Qatar's endeavors and national plans against diabetes align with the policies, plans, and programs of the International Diabetes Federation. He mentioned that the Federation has officially recognized the Al Bawasil International Camp since 2013, registering it in its records.

Responding to a question about the global prevalence of diabetes, Dr. Al Sayed revealed that the number of people with diabetes worldwide is approaching 550 million, with projections suggesting it could rise to 850 million by 2045—an increase of about 60 percent. He pointed out that the Arab region contributes about 80 million cases to this number, highlighting that the current global spending on diabetes is approximately one trillion dollars
