QU Opens Registration For Fall 2020, Withdraws Summer Semester

Doha: Qatar University (QU) has announced that the early registration for courses for the fall of 2020 will start on Sunday and study will start on Aug. 16, while it decided to postpone the registration of courses for this summer.

According to the university schedule for early registration of courses, it was decided registration of graduate students and academic excellence students will start on Sunday, while registration will open for undergraduate students who have passed 90 or more credit hours on April 13, and on April 14 for students who have passed 75 credit hours.

QU devoted April 15 for the registration of students who have exceeded 60 credit hours and April 16 for students who have passed 45 credit hours. On April 19, students who have passed 30 credit hours will register their courses.

On April 20, all students can register their courses until the end of the deletion and addition period for the fall 2020 semester.

Head of Registration Department at QU Aisha Al Qahtani said that the university provides waiting lists in the registration of courses, whereby students can add their names to waiting lists in closed groups, and activate the waiting lists service for the spring of 2020 as of Sunday.

She explained that all the courses offered in the fall 2020 semester were announced a week before the start of early registration so that students can prepare their academic schedules after reviewing the academic guidance through the specific channels for that.

Al Qahtani also stressed the importance of reading the university's e-mail messages to students related to registration instructions and the most important advice that they must adhere to before starting registration. She also advised students to remotely speak to their academic advisor before registering for the courses to assist them in choosing the required courses within the academic plan for his academic specialization. She urged students to know the guidelines of the self-service system to know how to use the system in registering or deleting courses.

Regarding the postponement of the early registration of the academic courses for the summer 2020 semester, the QU administration made it clear that it is closely following the current situation of the coronavirus crisis and is studying the variables and circumstances first-hand, to take its final decisions regarding the summer semester at the end of April, following the changes then to achieve the public interest of students and the university.

Since the beginning of the crisis, QU has rushed to implement the decision to activate the system of virtual learning and distance education in response to the decision to suspend studies in public and private schools and universities for all students in the State of Qatar within the precautionary measures to prevent the novel coronavirus.

QU organized several workshops on distance education and methods of using them and warned that all students should be informed of the rules and regulations used in this framework.

The university urged its students to adhere to attend interactive lectures according to the announced academic schedule from the beginning of the academic year, and not to violate the charter of academic integrity and to deal with interactive lectures with privacy and responsibility.
