Doha: Three new major public parks — with outdoor fitness equipment, play areas and other attractions — will be opened next year.

The construction of two new parks — Al Gharrafa Park and Umm Al Saneem Park — and development of Rawdat Al Khail Park (known as Al Muntazah Park) was started last year by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).  The three parks will have thousands of trees and plants along vast green areas. They will also have facilities for the visitors, such as restaurants, fitness equipment, kids’ play areas among others, according to information on Ashghal’s website.

The parks are expected to be completed in fourth quarter of 2021.

The development of three new public parks will provide more opportunity to residents to indulge in healthy recreational activity and will also increase green areas in the country.

Earlier this year in February, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) had marked Qatar National Sport Day 2020 by opening three public parks.

The parks are located at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium and the former Al Ersal Station training sites cluster, which is located in Onaiza, near West Bay.

Each park features tennis and basketball courts, children’s play areas, jogging and cycling tracks, open spaces and workout equipment.

There are around 95 parks in Qatar, majority of which are in Doha.

There are a total of 38 parks located in Doha, followed by Al Rayyan which is home to 29 parks. Umm Salal has five public parks, while Al Sheehaniya has three parks.

Ashghal had announced the construction of these  public parks including the development of Rawdat Al Khail Park (Al Muntaza Park), and new parks at Al Gharafa and Umm Al Seneem in November last year.

Rawdat Al Khail Park, popularly known as Al Muntaza Park, is located in Rawdat Al Khail area on C Ring Road.

It is located on a vast area of 140,000 square metres covering many facilities for the needs of visitors of all ages with a distinct green environment.

Umm Al Seneem Park is located at Hayr Al Zahra Street and Waab Lebarg Street in Umm Al Seneem on an area of about 130,000 square meters. Its features include green arena along 102,000 square meters, planting 740 trees, building pedestrian and bicycle paths along 1,200 metres, and 378 car parking slots. Al Gharafa Park is located at Umm Al Zuber Street in Al Gharrafa. It will be spread over an area of about 50,000 square metres.
