A residence permit allows visitors from other countries to stay and work in Qatar .It provides them with eligibility to a range of important services. The employer/sponsor is the one who usually handles the process of obtaining the Residence Permit, also known as RP, on behalf of the individual.
When the RP expires, the employer/sponsor is an authorized to renew the expat's RP within 3 months without paying a fine. The Ministry of Interior (MOI) allows individuals and companies in Qatar to renew residence permits online for 1 to 3 years. The service is obtainable for Qataris, residents, and companies holding Qatari Smart ID Cards. Residence Permit can be renewed three months before to the expiry date. Grace period is of 90 days and then penalty starts which is QR 10 per day.

Process to Renew RP online

• Login with your smartcard to the e-services portal of the MOI.

• Click on "Residency Services" then "Cancel Residency".

• Enter the required RP numbers to be cancelled.

• Pay appropriate fees online.

• Print payment receipt.

• You can also use Metrash2 app to renew resident permits.

Offline Renewal

•Download the application form and fill out.

•Attach the following documents with the form:

1. Photocopy of valid employer’s ID (Personal sponsorships)
2. Photocopy of valid employer’s Establishment ID (Government entities, institutions, companies, and others)

Renewal fees Of Residence Permit

• For wife, children, and family sponsorships it is QR 500

• For employees sponsored by companies, institutions and shops it is QR 1000

• For employees on personal sponsorships, servants, farmers and sailors it is QR 300

• Discount of 20%is there in case of three-year renewal (for personal sponsorship, companies, wife, children and family sponsorship).

• If delivery is made by Qatar post then additional QR 20 is to be paid.

Cancellation of Residence Permit (RP)

Employer/sponsor can cancel your RP after that you are allowed only for 30 days to stay in the country. Valid RP for persons under a company or personal sponsorships can be cancelled online. This service is applicable for Qataris, residents, companies, and organizations holding Qatari Smart ID Cards.

• Enter the required RP numbers to be cancelled.

• Pay appropriate fees online.

• Print payment receipt.

Relevant fees for residence permit cancellation are as follows:

• For personal sponsorship: QR 20

• For company sponsorship: QR 50
